If you found a way to end humanity’s worst examples of social injustice, what would you do?

Disclaimer

The study of predatory leadership (PL) is relatively new and an ongoing work in progress. Most studies of narcissism and psychopathy focus either on the actors themselves or upon their impact upon their victims. We’ve encountered very few works about the global impact of psychopaths (estimated at 1% of the population) and narcissists (estimated at 7.7% of the male population and 4.8% of the female population). Most of what you will read on this site and in the ebook, Understanding Predatory Leadership…, is based upon the author’s interpretations of hundreds of writings and studies conducted over the centuries. As in any other scientific field, especially those involving psychological and sociological elements of behavior, early writings and developments are often criticized, debunked, updated or otherwise improved by researchers who come along later. While we are committed to the mission of educating the public to recognize and protect themselves from this condition, we also expect to be challenged in regard to the accuracy or provability of the PL hypothesis.

Along these lines, if you have corrections, improvements or suggestions to offer, please do not hesitate to contact us. Given that the purpose of this work in to improve the human condition, your ideas may help accelerate the development and activities of Impada.org, improving and/or saving many lives in the process.

What is IMPADA?

IMPADA is a non profit organization, also known as an NGO (non-governmental organization) that presumes most people would like to experience a world free of war, corruption, poverty, human trafficking, domestic violence and child abuse etc. To assist in achieving this goal, IMPADA provides training to help people become more effective in their efforts to achieve those goals.

The research that led to the establishment of IMPADA began several decades ago. One of the primary questions that drove the research:

How is it that, over and over again, the worst kinds of people are able to achieve powerful positions of leadership, including as heads of nations, large corporations and in other offices, agencies and organizations of all sizes that impact the quality of life for many people?

What is Predatory Leadership (PL)?

Researching the dynamics of toxic leadership and its ability to develop followers led to the discovery of a syndrome, labeled predatory leadership (PL), a set of conditions that incorporates the mindset and intentions of narcissists and psychopaths, and how their behavioral traits enable them to seduce, ensnare, control and exploit “normal” people whose sense of empathy, conscience and compassion makes them vulnerable to the machinations of those toxic leaders, also known as predatory leaders.

Not only do the behavioral traits of predatory leaders enable them to  gain control of large and small organizations for personal gain at the expense of the constituencies they are supposed to serve; their positions of power, including the inclinations to start wars, sustain corruption, exploit poverty, engage in human trafficking, and oppress others based upon sex, race, religion, skin color, etc., has permeated throughout civilization for so many centuries that many people believe that our worst examples of social injustice are innately normal aspects of human nature.

The hypothesis of predatory leadership is a widely applicable tool that will help humanitarians and social justice activists develop more effective and sustainable solutions for overcoming humanity’s worst conditions. Consider this hypothesis doing for civilization what the microscope did for the medical profession. When a large percentage of the population is able to apply the PL hypothesis in their immediate lives as well as to the forces behind any condition that includes elements of social injustice, they will be able to make better choices about whom they follow, promote, elect and marry.

I don’t see PL affecting me personally; why should I be concerned about it?

Think of the saying, “Fish don’t know they’re wet”. We all live with varying degrees of stress; some of us struggle to survive amid conditions of racism, sexism, ageism, poverty, class divides, bureaucratic insensitivity, inept, exploitive and/or abusive corporate and government practices, etc.The quality of life in your town, region or nation may be compromised by corrupt officials or corporate practices. Your children may be receiving a substandard education and a future faced with limited opportunities. In many cases, we accept these conditions as inevitable and simply do what we can to survive and prevail. All of these conditions were initiated and sustained through forces identified with PL and its consequences. When you educate yourself to better understand the nature of these forces, and share this knowledge with friends, family and others, you will have the opportunity to begin to make the kinds of changes that will eventually grow into a movement that can make the world a better place for everyone.

I’m just one person; what can I do to end PL?

Consider that Rosa Parks, Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King each started as one person with a conviction to stand up for humane values and standards. Each became a symbol for social justice and positive change but if they had to work as the sole ambassadors for their convictions, they would not have made much progress. One of the ways in which Impada.org works to create change is to invite you to choose the degree of action that is appropriate for you. Begin by sharing the knowledge you gain here with those you know; tell them about the PL ebook. That step by itself is significant and important; as more people learn about the PL hypothesis, their participation will help grow the anti-PL movement into a significant force.
